Applications - Residential and Small-Volume Use

See “N’ Be Green may be obtained in quantities of less than 1.1 tons (1 ½ cubic yards) for the following uses and recommended application rates. The product can be applied by hand, or with broadcast or drop spreaders.

Established Lawns

Apply at a rate of 40 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft., as often as every 3 months. Recommended application times are once in the spring, once in the fall.

One half ton of product can be applied to approximately a half acre of lawn for each application.

New Lawns

Apply 60 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft. to the soil and rake in. Apply the seed.

Eight weeks after germination, begin applying at the rate for ESTABLISHED LAWNS.

New Sod

Apply 60 lbs. per 1,000 sq ft. to soil before laying sod. Top-dress over sodded area an additional 40 lbs. per 1,000 sq ft. Apply thereafter according to the rate for ESTABLISHED LAWNS.

Flower Beds (Annual and Perennial)

Apply about 10 to 15 lbs. per 100 sq ft. of bed before planting annuals, or in spring for perennials, and work it into the soil. May reapply about 5 to 10 lbs. per 100 sq ft. every 3 months.

Shrubs

At planting, blend with soil according to the following rate, and backfill around the root ball :

18” shrub / 1 gallon container – 2 to 4 cups

48” shrub / 5-7 gallon container – ½ to 1 gallon

Work an additional 2 to 6 cups into the surface soil after backfill. May reapply an additional 2 to 6 cups, 2 or 3 times per year; or continue to apply to the bed according to the rate for FLOWER BEDS.

Transplanted Trees

At planting, blend with soil according to the following rate, then backfill around the root ball :

4 ft. tree / ½+“ trunk / 3-gallon container — 5 to 7 lbs.

10 ft. tree / 1½+“ trunk / 7-gallon container — 10 to 15 lbs.

15-20 ft. tree / 4+” trunk / 3 ft. diameter ball — 20 to 30 lbs.

Work additional equivalent amounts into the surface soil after backfill.

May reapply annually an additional 5 lbs. per inch of trunk diameter, in the spring. Apply the dosage evenly to an area slightly beyond the drip area of the tree. If the area under the tree is lawn, follow application rates for ESTABLISHED LAWNS.

1 ½ Yard = 1.1 Tons

Weight/Volume-to-Total Nitrogen Equivalents

20 Lbs = 1 Lb. N

100 LBS = 5 Lbs. N

1 Ton = 100 Lbs. N

1 Cu.Yard = 75 Lbs. N

Bulk Applications - Turf and Farm

Turf Farms, Golf Courses, Public Parks, Athletic Fields, Farm Cropland
See ‘N’ Be Green must be applied at agronomic rates that do not exceed the Nitrogen requirements needed for the application site. Authority staff may offer assistance with agronomic rate calculations upon request. Further assistance regarding agronomic rates may also be obtained from PA Dept of Agriculture, PSU Cooperative Extension Service, or local County Conservation District.
Bulk rate applications are defined as any single application in excess of 1.1 tons (1 ½ cubic yards). Use of this product is permitted only if applied according to the instructions and restrictions contained herein.

Avoid contamination of waterways by limiting storage or application of product where ground is: frozen, snow-covered, or subject to flooding or run-off during rainfall.

The product may not be stored on site for more than one year. Stored product should be kept dry. Bulk-stored product may self-generate heat if allowed to become moist.

Product transported in open trucks or containers should be securely covered.
Handle safely as with any other fertilizer- avoid breathing dust, wash skin and clothing after handling. Wear eye protection and dust masks when exposed to the product.

Avoid contamination of waterways by not storing or applying product where the ground is frozen, snow-covered, or subject to flooding or run-off during rainfall.

Stored products should be kept dry. Bulk-stored product may self-generate heat if allowed to become moist.

Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Distribution and usage of this product is authorized by PA Department of Environmental Protection General Permit #PAG-07-0006. See “N’ Be Green is in complete compliance with all standards, including metals and pathogens, for the “Beneficial Use of Exceptional Quality Sewage Sludge” as required by the PA DEP and the PA Solid Waste Management Act; and the standards for “Class A Biosolids” under the federal Clean Water Act, Title 40 Part 503. Recycling of high-quality, processed sewage sludge (biosolids) is accepted and encouraged by policies adopted by both PA DEP and the Environmental Protection Agency.

According to PA DEP regulations, this product may not be used in Exceptional Value Watersheds unless a site-specific permit has been approved by the PA DEP. In Bucks County, Cooks Creek and Tinicum Creek watersheds are listed by PA DEP as Exceptional Value Watersheds. For applications outside of Bucks County, please consult Authority staff or the county’s Conservation District.

This product has been permitted for distribution and use in Pennsylvania only.

The Authority does not, in any way, assume any responsibility for the use, or misuse, of the product, or of any direct or indirect claims, for alleged harm to crops, gardens, lawns, animals, or humans.
